NEW YORK (WBNG) — Chobani Greek yogurt is expanding with a new $1.2 billion facility in upstate New York.
Governor Kathy Hochul announced this on April 22, highlighting the deep roots Chobani has in New York already.
Officials said more than 1,000 jobs are expected to be created, and with a facility that big, more are expected to be made to keep up with the booming yogurt producer.
When the facility is at full capacity, Chobani will process over 12 million pounds of milk daily.
“This is not about people in the elected office,” said Hochul. “This is about the people who do the hard work. and when i think about the origins of the products that go into this yogurt and the products. It starts with the dairy farmers.”
Chobani’s latest facility will be built at Griffiss Business and Technology Park.
The company chose Rome, Oneida County, for its skilled workforce, easy access to the East Coast population and affordable housing.
